Colne Valley Railway

Colne Valley Railway needed to develop its supporter base, diversify its income and build long-term partnerships as part of its new business plan.

Supported by the Culture Recover Fund, the attraction need to move to a more sustainable model through attracting new audiences and driving income that would support future growth.

I led a team of consultants to work alongside the volunteer team, influencing and support help them to re-evaluate the visitor experience and related programming, explore new income-generating models, understand existing and potential audiences and to identify new partnerships that could support their objectives.

We worked with them over a number of months, auditing current delivery communications, conducting audience research, talking to the team and reviewing the experience. We supported them to develop new visitor-related KPIs and produced a range of documents to support thinking and to help them develop the heritage railway.

This included a visitor experience review, peer review, income generation plan, audience development and marketing plan, outline programme and activity calendar and a stakeholder review.

The project was completed in September 2021.
